Covid-Aid Indonesia
The Covid restrictions from 2020 to mid-2022 hit small businesses in Indonesia particularly hard. At that time, I was living with my family in Jakarta, Indonesia. At the beginning of the pandemic, I had the privilege of meeting two tailors, Pak Hassan and Pak Eka. Both were self-employed craftsmen but received hardly any orders due to the pandemic.
At the same time, a wonderful friend who knows Jakarta inside out introduced me to Indonesia’s largest fabric market. This sparked the idea of purchasing affordable yet high-quality fabrics from the market and having simple, everyday essentials made by the two tailors. From this initiative, S&D strength and dignity was born.
A variety of products—such as fabric shopping bags, bento pouches, kitchen towels, and cushions—were produced based on custom orders. In this way, Pak Hassan and Pak Eka were able to generate a more stable income during the challenging Covid period.
